Struggling artist means so many things. We struggle with making money, with motivation, with confidence and inspiration. Many years ago I used work for Marney Makradakis at her online artist community Artella Land.
From the About page at the Artella Land site: "It all began as a self-published art and literary magazine called Artella (named for “art” and “telling”.) In order to pay for printing the magazine in full-color, Marney created innovative ePrograms to serve the unmet needs of creative individuals, and became a pioneer in using the internet to deliver out-of-the-box programs and services for creative people."
I not only had a job I could do from home but I also had access to the many wonderful e-courses Marney created. The e-course I'm currently working through is called AlphaBetter Muse.
Each course in AlphaBetter Muse corresponds to a letter of the alphabet and includes instructions for a multi-media art piece and journal prompts. I love mixed media art but I also love digital art. I started creating 8.5' x 11' digital collages, printing them and then embellishing them with colored pens, stickers or whatever I was inspired to add. Kind of mixed media but mostly digital art. I then choose a few journal prompts and write the answers on the back of my printed creation. I then slide the piece into a plastic sleeve made for a three-ring notebook so I have all my creations together in one place. Today I completed the letter "O" for Overexposed Muse and I'm sharing it here. The collage is a combination of my own photography and digital elements purchased from Mischief Circus created by Hollie Haradon.
Whether you choose an e-course from Artella Land or find your inspiration elsewhere there's always help to be found. Enjoy the journey!
