Three Muses Challenge - School Days

I think it is important to be challenged, especially in art. I just discovered another art blog that posts weekly challenges at Three Muses! So much fun!

This week's challenge is School Days and I had so much fun creating this piece.

First "Schoolhouse Rock" popped into my head. I started out trying to reproduce some of the segments of the original series but wasn't sure about copyright issues so I explored some of my clip art collections and came up with a different interpretation of Schoolhouse Rock.

I also thought it would be good to share the original elements that went into the piece. I work in Photoshop and used a layer mask to cut the dancing children out of the background. I used Denise Love's chalkboard effect on the text. The music notes are PS custom shapes and I used the chalkboard effect on those as well.

And here's a great article about challenging yourself as an artist:  "Challenging Yourself to Become a Better Artist" by Reid Southen a.k.a. Rahll. Reid Southen is a freelance concept artist in Detroit, Michigan who’s worked on films such as The Hunger Games, the Wachowski’s Jupiter Ascending, and Independence Day: Resurgence.

Happy creating!
