Digital Round Robin

I have been participating in a really fun collaboration with a group of artists from Digital Whisper. Once a month we play Digital Round Robin. There are usually 8 to 10 of us playing and it is a blast!

Digital Whisper Challenge - Bunnies

This weeks Digital Whisper challenge is bunnies. Who doesn't love bunnies?

The image of the girl and the bunny beside her are from vintage scrapbook pages. I just adore these old illustrations.

Star Catcher - Neon Signs

As I've said before one of the best ways to keep your creative edge is to join a creative tribe. My tribe at the moment is Digital Whisper. A fun online group of artists who participate in weekly challenges, ATC swaps and digital round robins.

This week's challenge is Neon Signs. For this challenge I altered this gorgeous illustration by Henry Clive (1882-1960) titled A Melody of Ancient Egypt. I tweaked the colorization of the illustration and transformed the monument behind the redheaded beauty into a Star Catcher complete with neon Egyptian hieroglyphics. What fun!

Grapefruit Moon Gallery has become a leading dealer in the works of renowned artists from the Grand Age of American Illustration including works by Henry Clive. They have a detailed biography of the artist on their blog.

Best Cure for Artist Blocks

ATC made for Digital Whisper Swap.
I don't know who said this but it is so very true: "What can be done at anytime almost never gets done."

How I longed for freedom from the 9 to 5 routine. But once I got that freedom, I found myself adrift, not sure where to begin. And because I always know I have tomorrow it's easy to put things off. Even when it's something I love doing...like writing a blog post...or playing in Photoshop.

So I realized that I NEED deadlines. Even for the stuff I love to do. And the best way for me to be accountable is to participate in art swaps and challenges. Paper Digital Arts and Digital Whisper are two online art communities I joined where groups are formed around various mediums and themes. I especially love the ATC swaps.

ATC's (Artist Trading Cards) are a fun and quick way to keep the creative juices going. You are assigned a swap partner and have a deadline for mailing your ATC. This is an ATC I did digitally and the theme was Celebrate.
